Please note a few courses do charge a slight materials fee e.g. Robotics & Technology. All relevant prices can be found at the bottom of the information page of each programme.
What is the tutor to student ratio?
In the computer classes each student has their own computer and we are constantly monitoring our larger venues to ensure accurate class to teacher allocations. However in our larger classes we bring in extra tutors so that we have approximately 1 tutor per 10-12 student ratios.
Can older children sign themselves in?
Yes. Please advise either our office and/or the teacher/supervisor onsite and ensure that the student remembers to sign themselves in and out each day.
When do I have to pay for the course?

*Note that the Ultra Computer courses run for 4 days only.
What software do you use?
Majority of the software used on our courses are open source and available to the student to download at home and continue their learning after the course. At the conclusion of the course an information sheet will be available to the student; this will also be available for parents to download from the Parent Wiki at the end of the holidays.
Why should my child attend the late finish?
The late finish provides an opportunity for students to delve deeper into what they have learnt throughout the day. The class sizes are generally smaller which also provides an opportunity to work with the tutor on a more one to one level. There are also some extension activities available during these late finish workshop, please see brochure or course content for more information, as well as some new software to learn. Please note that all extension work completed during the late finish will not hinder the learning experience of those who leave at the early finish.
Can I attend more than one course?
Absolutely! If you are interested in a range of subjects then you can definitely attend more than one course running throughout the two weeks of holidays. You are welcome to attend two weeks of Computer Animation & Games Design course as with our extension activities and variety of teaching staff a different point of view and further advancement will definitely be obtained.
What other courses are there to extend my child after attending your Computer Animation & Games Design course?
We would definitely recommend coming back to the Computer Animation & Games Design course, there are extension activities and always new aspects to learn once you are more familiar with the software. Our tutors are always excited to work through new activities with the more extended students.
However all students who have attended the Computer Animation & Games Design course will undoubtedly enjoy taking their knowledge of the software and putting into action in any of our other courses. Majority of our other courses will provide an opportunity to learn more software relevant to the subject.
If your child’s passion is focused on the animation or games subjects then we would also recommend our Ultra courses. These are elite courses taken by our top tutors. They are advanced and more focused as well as a smaller class environment. Enrolments are open too all Bubble Dome Computer Animation & Games Design attendees 10 and over as well as high school students.
What if a course I am interested in is not being held in my area?
Unfortunately we cannot reach everyone every holiday period. If you are interested in a particular course being held in your area please do not hesitate to contact our office on 0800 GET BUBBLE (438 282) or 1800 11 55 62 or email info@bubbledome.com.
Do you offer scholarships?
We sometimes do, however any requests need to come through your school. Please contact your school to discuss these options – either with a Career Advisor, Gateway Coordinator or Principal staff and have them contact our office. Scholarships will only be awarded through schools.
Are you registered for Ministry of Health subsidies?
Yes we are. If you have a NZ Ministry of Health Carer Support Form please request an invoice upon booking your child in and bring the form along with you to registration on the first day. One of our representatives will happily sign this so you can attach the invoice and send to Ministry of Health for your reimbursement.
How do you cater for such a wide age group?
Where possible we group students that have similar experience and of a similar age group together so they can work together one extension activities if and when necessary. In the larger classrooms we ensure there is sufficient support so that each student gets a level of one on one time with a tutor to assist with problems they may be facing.
Will this appeal to my child who is has a learning difficulty?
Bubble Dome cater for all learning abilities. With the constant use of imagination and interaction this appeals to those students who tend to struggle with reading and/or writing. Our learning environments can be as interactive as the student wishes. We have support to help them through problems should they arise and we find that even those with social anxiety come out of their shell throughout the 3 days being surrounded by like-minded students enthusiastic about our courses.
Does this cater to my child who requires extension?
As we have a number of returning students each holidays we are constantly offering new activities and content (where possible) to keep the learning experiences alive for all students. Students who have attended before or require extension will be grouped with fellow students so they can continue their learning at their own pace.
What prior experience/knowledge of computers does my child need?
At every course we go through the basics for all first timers. We also have the flexibility to move students to either more advanced or more junior classes so they are surrounded with like-minded students at a similar. We will also have support in the larger classes to ensure that all students get the necessary help should they require any.
What happens to my personal details once I register with Bubble Dome?
Your personal details are kept safe by Bubble Dome and at the venue you are registering for. They will NOT be sold or passed on to any other party. They will be retained by Bubble Dome to update you of the next holidays’ courses (via post and email) however you can opt out of this by contacting our office.
Who will be teaching my child?
Majority of our tutors are working full time teachers or university lecturers or work full time in their specialised fields. We work with them closely to ensure they have the appropriate knowledge to work with the students and extend them. All tutors are required to have working with children experience.
What does my child need to bring?
Please provide your own morning, lunch, afternoon teas and a drink for your child/ren. Your child/ren are welcome to bring along activities for the breaks (i.e. board games, cards, a ball) however, this is at their own risk. Valuables, such as technology, should not be brought to the venue. We also recommend sunscreen in the summer months.
Please have your child bring a USB memory stick so they can save work to take home. It is also useful to bring along a pencil case and notebook to take necessary notes when learning new software.
What happens during breaks and lunchtimes?
As majority of our courses are working with computers we ensure the students have regular breaks throughout the day for fresh air and a run around. Students are supervised at all times however no structured play is provided during these times. We ensure boundaries are set and students do not have ‘free reign’ of the school grounds at the time. As mentioned above, we welcome students to bring along relevant activities they can do during these times.
What do the courses involve?
Each course is based upon around thorough and intricate, open ended lesson plans designed cater for the younger students as well as to challenge the older, more experienced student. Each course has its own brief which can be viewed on our website.
What if my child has health needs/concerns?
It will be greatly appreciated that at the time of registration you provide us with any additional learning and/or health issues to aid us in providing the best possible environment for your child. However this is also a change to record any concerns we should be aware of on the form that comes with your confirmation. Please bring this along with you to registration on the first day. If you have concerns which you wish to discuss with us in-depth please do not hesitate to contact our office directly. We are experienced with dealing with a range of both learning and health elements.
Where do I go on the first day?
We try and provide as much information as possible with our confirmations. We also provide maps where possible for our schools on our parent wiki (you will receive a link to this site with your confirmation of registration). However if in doubt the classroom/s will be signposted from the main reception/office area of the school.
Do you offer group discounts?
We have in the past offered sibling and group discounts for bookings made at the same time, please contact our office for more information.
What time are we supposed to be at the venue on the first day?
On the first day registration will be open from 8.30am with classes starting each day at 9am. Registration will close each day promptly after the course finish time. Please arrive promptly to collect your child from the venue as caretakers and property managers require to lock up the venue.
Can my child be with their friend/sibling?
If you wish to ensure your child is in the same class as their sibling and/or friend then please specifically request this to office either via phone, email or text. We attempt to cater for all requests when putting together the classes.
Where is Bubble Dome based?
Bubble Dome attempts to convenient locate programmes in your area. The main office is currently located in Cardwell Street, Onehunga.
What is your cancellation policy?
If cancellation is made up to 7 days before the start date then a full refund (less a $40 admin fee) will be made. If it is within 7 days of the start date then no refund will be made. No refund will be made for any missed course days.
What is your complaints policy?
We ask that all parents contact us no later than the first day (of our holiday workshops) if they have any problems with our service. We require a detailed written account addressing specific issues of concern. This allows us to immediately address any problems that may arise, so that students and parents can happily continue with the remainder of the full programme. We require that letters are emailed through by 7.30pm so that we have time to respond before the beginning of Day Two.
In the rare event that an issue persists past Day One, we are open to discussing options that will satisfy our customer needs. These arrangements are entirely at the discretion of the Director, and will vary depending on each individual situation.
If a student has fully completed an entire 3-4 day workshop, we operate a No Refund policy. We therefore stress that all complaints or concerns must be sent in writing no later than the first day of each programme.
