Furkle Stroy Williams

Kids Ideas

Activity: Box of tricks
Scene: Furkle is in the rain forest, which is full of blueberries and strawberries.

Furkle:   Wow, it is like berry world out here!
Furkle pulls a berry off a bush and eats it.
Furkle:   Yum! I'll try a blackberry next.
Furkle does not know that these blackberries are poisonous. He tries one.
Furkle:   Wow, that one had a very strong taste!
Furkle tries another one and another one until he is all filled up. Furkle tries to start shifting his box home when two little feet appear.
Furkle:   Oh no I think I'm growing feet!
Furkle tries to jump on them to get them off. Furkle tries to shout at them. He even tries drawing things on them.
Furkle:  Wait a minute! I'll go ask Professor Cecil to get these legs off.
So that's exactly what Furkle did.
Professor Cecil:  Uhh, hello Furkle, what is your problem?
Furkle:   I've grown these legs and I want them off!
Professor Cecil:  But why? Legs are brilliant! Now if you have legs you don't need to slide down hills and get dirty. You can walk or even run.
Furkle:  That is all true but I will be different.
Professor Cecil:  Different is good. If everyone were the same it would be quite boring!
Furkle:  Hey, that's right! I am going to keep these legs forever!

In four years time Furkle's legs came off but his little feet were still there. Furkle ate a lot of blackberries so his legs would grow back but they were gone forever.

Activity: Leafworm life
Furkle digs a very deep hole and drops in a few leaves. He waters them every day like you would water a plant. In a few days the leaf will grow and start to crack and in that very moment of the crack it turns into a leafworm. To keep the leafworms growing Furkle still has to water them so they grow and grow.

Leafworms eat nothing but leaves. They only eat during nighttime and sleep during the day. They drink all sorts of drinks, even coke and wine, but the most fascinating fact is that they don't drink water. In order to survive they need to eat grass every now and again, even though it is one of the grossest foods to eat. Leafworms only live to about a month but it is quite good to have them so you don't need to do the mowing!
